Using Technology in ELT Classroom
Learning Using Technology in ELT has open my eyes wider about the diversity of
technology advancement can offer in teaching and learning. In this 21st
century, I believe that teachers who use technology frequently in their
classrooms perceive greater benefits to student learning. There are many ways
that technology can benefit students. As for example using wiki as teaching tool, it somehow can enhance the learning process
where students can engage with the other student collaboratively. Learning
using wiki encourage learners to use
their own knowledge, creativity to construct idea using their own words which
makes use of newer web technologies for sharing information. I also find that
wiki could also useful for us, the teacher trainee in creating a friendly and
collaborative discussion rather than using email to send information and gather
other’s opinion.
The other interesting part in
learning Using Technology in ELT is about the Tandem Project, I think that was
a great idea of making use of each other’s potential from different languages
speakers. In tandem project, the “native speakers of different languages work
together in pairs to increase their knowledge of their partner's language and
their intercultural competence through communication as well as mutual help in
learning”. I agree that learning through peers or same age group is so
beneficial because we can speak according to our level of attachment and
formality. We also can correct each other better because we are learning with
the speaker of that particular language.
I believe that podcast also one
way of an effective approach to learning because it involves more than one
skills especially thinking skill and listening skills. It may attract student’s
interest to participate in the lesson, trying to make their own podcast and
build students’ creativity. Moreover, learning about ‘Corpora and Concordance’ also really beneficial to us because we
can explore more about vocabulary and suitability of the context for certain
words. That database can help not only the students in their language learning
but also the teacher themselves to improve in learning and teaching language
especially.
I hope that I can learn more about technology that can
assist me in my teaching in the future as well as for my own skills and
knowledge. I am sure that a future teacher will benefit a lot from this unit
since the advancement of technology nowadays in tremendous and fast.
